With a car there are many places of interest to visit. You can explore the villages and towns near Almyrida, such as Vamos, Vryses, Georgioupoli, ancient sites such as Aptera or the nearest major gorge – the Diktamos Gorge. However, you can travel further and discover Western Crete with places such as Kissamos and Kolymbari or the Southern coast and explore Frangokastello or Horio Sfakia. Your hire company will provide you with a map and will give you some advice; your hosts will also be willing to offer assistance and will be able to contact local experts should you have a specific question.

Alternatively there are many organised tours that can be joined at Almyrida. These include Chania, the Samaria Gorge, Elafonisi, Imbros Gorge, Knosos, Aptera and even Elounda or Spinalonga. There is also a Cretan evening where you can learn local dances.

You can also obtain the local newspaper or look for adverts around the town as there are often organised trips or walks with special emphasis such as flowers, history or landscape. These trips will be reasonably priced and be led by a local expert.
